Food Security Indicator Committee To Manage Data – Mohamad

PUTRAJAYA, The establishment of a Food Security Indicator Cluster Committee on the National Food Security Policy to facilitate the development, management and monitoring of data is one of the food security initiatives being refined.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the matter was discussed in the Executive Committee on National Food Security Policy meeting today.

In a statement today, he said other initiatives include empowering the aquaculture industry through the development of the Aquaculture Industry Zone (ZIA) to meet increased domestic demand and encourage exports through infrastructure upgrades and investment promotion.

Besides, it also proposed to develop a national ruminant industry through the Empowerment of the Ruminant Development Programme to achieve a Self-Sufficiency Rate (SSR) of 25 per cent for beef and buffalo meat by 2030.

The meeting also looked into initiatives to strengthen the management of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through the improvement
of effluent discharge policies and guidelines for the agriculture, livestock and aquaculture sectors as well as the implementation of ongoing research on the impact and mitigation of AMR contaminants.

Mohamad said the Whole of Government, Whole of Society (WoGoS) approach is very important to strengthen aspects of food security in dealing with an environment of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA).

Therefore, he said the constructive suggestions highlighted in the meeting will be improved before being taken up for consideration by the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security Policy later.
