Former Maybank CEO Amirsham Is Alliance Bank’s New Chairman


Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Amirsham Abdul Aziz as its new chairman.

Deputy chairman Ernest Wong Yuen Weng said the appointment, effective October 10, augurs well for the future of Alliance Bank.

“We look forward to him leading the board and management to scale new heights for our banking group. With his proven leadership and expertise, we are confident that the bank will achieve continuous growth and success,” he said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

The bank said under the stewardship of the new chairman, together with the guidance of the board and senior leadership team, Alliance Bank would continue with Acceler8 2027 growth path towards becoming ‘The Bank For Life’ for its stakeholders.

Amirsham, 74, holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He brings with him over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, having been in Maybank Group for 31 years holding
various senior positions, including Maybank’s president and chief executive officer for 14 years.

He was a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit and Department of Statistics from March 18, 2008 to April 9, 2009.

Besides, he was also Chairman of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2011.

In addition, Amirsham was formerly the chairman of Bursa Malaysia Bhd and a member of the boards of CapitaLand Ltd, Singapore; Petroliam Nasional Bhd and RAM Holdings Bhd.

Currently, he is the chairman of Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd and sits on the board of Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Bhd.
