Kuala Lumpur: Two former prime ministers have proposed a special motion in the Dewan Rakyat to address the Palestinian crisis following US President Donald Trump's unexpected announcement to relocate Palestinians and take control of the Gaza Strip.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera), while debating the motion of thanks on the royal address, stated that the world should reject the proposal, labeling it as inhumane and unacceptable. He emphasized that the Palestinian issue transcends religion and is fundamentally a humanitarian crisis, urging the Islamic world and the global community to unite. He called on Malaysia to prompt the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting, even if some Islamic nations maintain diplomatic ties with Israel. He also highlighted the necessity for action from the United Nations (UN), arguing that the proposal not only provokes global outrage but also threatens international stability.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh) also condemned the move, describing it as ethnic cleansing that violates international law and human rights. As the Chair of ASEAN and a founding member of the OIC, Muhyiddin urged Malaysia to propose a UN resolution aimed at deploying peacekeepers to protect Palestinian rights. He expressed full support for tabling this motion for debate by all Honourable Members.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) commended the government's commitment to Gaza reconstruction, underscoring Malaysia's strong humanitarian stance. Aminuddin, who is also the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, announced the launch of a Gaza Development Fund, which will be mobilized across the state to encourage public contributions.
The Dewan Rakyat sitting is scheduled to resume on Monday.
