Four, Including Year-old Baby Girl, Crushed To Death By Trailer

Kuantan: Four individuals, including a year-old baby girl, were killed when the car they were in was crushed by a trailer carrying wood dust at Kilometre 43.2 of the East Coast Expressway heading towards Karak this afternoon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre reported that the victims, identified as A Halim Hasoon, 55; Rozita Buang, 58; Norbahyah A Halim, 26; and Nayla Afya Aizat, one, all died at the scene of the crash involving their Honda City and the trailer.

The statement from the operations centre detailed that the trailer driver sustained injuries and was transferred to the Health Ministry for further treatment. They received the distress call at 4.35 pm and dispatched a team from Bentong Fire and Rescue Station to the scene. The team used special equipment to extricate the victims, concluding the operation at 6.33 pm when the bodies were handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, AFA PRIME Berhad, the highway concessionaire, issued a statement indicating that the trailer likely skidded before crushing the car in the slow lane, ultimately stopping in the emergency lane. The incident resulted in the temporary closure of both the slow and emergency lanes to facilitate rescue efforts and vehicle removal.
