Kuala terengganu: Four schools in two districts of Terengganu continue to be closed following the floods that occurred on November 22. State Education Director Kamsah Kamal Mohamed has confirmed that the closure affects 2,479 students, who have been participating in Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) since last Sunday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the schools affected include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kepong and SK Kampung Bukit in Cendering, which remain closed due to stagnant water in several areas. Meanwhile, SK Atas Tol in Kuala Terengganu and SK Paya Resak in Marang have been converted into temporary relief centres (PPS) for flood victims.

Kamsah Kamal Mohamed expressed optimism that the situation would improve with the expected sunny weather in the coming days. He provided these updates during a post-flood school cleaning program at SK Kedai Buloh, with Terengganu National Security Council Director Wan Suhaini Wan Mohamad also in attendance.

Further details reveal that a total of 16 schools have been closed due to the floods, while another 48 are operating as PPS facilities. The director noted that this particular flood has been unusual, affecting schools that have never experienced flooding before, prompting the education department to implement precautionary measures for student and staff safety.

The director highlighted the unexpected flooding of SK Padang Mengkuang, which had never been inundated before, and the use of SK Paya Resak and SK Tasek as PPS due to severe flooding in the Bukit Payung area. In preparation for the next school session, which will begin earlier on January 12, the department is ready with Ops Payung.

The Terengganu State Education Department (JPNT) is in the process of collecting data and assessing the damage caused by the flood. A complete report will be submitted to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) once the evaluation is complete.
