Four Villages in Tanah Merah Brace for Imminent Flooding

Tanah Merah: Four villages located within a five-kilometre radius of the Sungai Golok basin in Tanah Merah are expected to experience flooding from today until Thursday (Feb 27). The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) issued the warning statement following the river water level forecast and the current status of the river water, which is predicted to rise and exceed the danger level.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) recorded that the Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas recorded a reading exceeding the danger level of 9.2 metres (m), while the Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah was at the warning level of 23.05 m. The four villages which are expected to experience flooding are Kampung Jenob, Kampung Nibong, Kampung Renab, and Kampung Air Bujing starting from 6 pm today until 12 midnight, on Feb 27.

Meanwhile, Bernama's survey around Kuala Krai today also found that several villages were flooded following heavy rains since yesterday, including Kampung Chenulang, Kampung Kuala Pertang, and Kampung Bedal. Kampung Kuala Pertang Federal Village Security Development Committee (JPKKP) chairman Adnan Mat Yassin said several roads to the village began to be flooded at around 11 pm yesterday, affecting residents' ability to go to work and send their children to school.
