Pasir gudang: A four-year-old boy was burnt to death after the lorry he was travelling in with an adult man, believed to be his father, caught fire at Iskandar Halal Park, Cahaya Baru, Pasir Gudang, here this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Iszahwati Supardi stated that they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10.46 am. Six personnel, along with a Fire Rescue Tender, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the operations team discovered an unloaded Volvo lorry, approximately 60 per cent of which was burnt, primarily at the cab section. Initial efforts by members of the public, which included the use of six dry powder fire extinguishers and an excavator to cover the fire with soil, were made to extinguish the blaze.

Iszahwati explained that during the incident, the child was still inside the lorry, while the driver, presumed to be the boy's father, managed to escape. Tragically, the child was confirmed burnt to death at the scene. Firefighters subsequently managed to extinguish the fire.
