Penang: The Penang Port Commission (SPPP) has announced free ferry services for Malaysians on Aug 31 and Sept 15 and 16 in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SPPP Chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin stated that this initiative aligns with the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who declared an extra public holiday on Sept 15 ahead of the Malaysia Day celebration at the PICCA Convention Centre in Butterworth on Sept 16.
Yeoh emphasized that offering free ferry services on these significant dates demonstrates SPPP's commitment as the Port Authority and Regulatory Body, alongside Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), the port operator, to promote the use of public transport during key national events. This initiative is also aimed at alleviating the financial burden on Malaysians.
Yeoh also acknowledged the government's efforts to introduce strategic measures that not only help in reducing living costs but also show appreciation and recognition for the people of Malaysia.
