Gig Worker Ecosystem Strengthened Through Training And Social Protection

Sungai buloh: The welfare and future of gig workers continue to be a priority for the government through the implementation of various new initiatives focusing on social protection, skills enhancement, and career development opportunities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan highlighted several initiatives by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), including the Progressive Acceleration for Capability and Employment (PACE) Economic Resilience Package. This initiative, with an allocation of RM20 million, aims to bolster workers' economic resilience.

Additionally, the RM110 million MyMahir Artificial Intelligence (AI) programme reflects the government's dedication to improving the skills of gig workers, such as e-hailing drivers and p-hailing riders, by providing exposure to technology-related and AI skills.

Ramanan made these remarks during his speech at the Grab partners' appreciation ceremony, which gathered nearly 1,000 drivers and delivery partners from the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency. He emphasized the opportunity for gig workers to access technical training through the Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC) under the Manpower Department and utilize the MYFutureJobs platform by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) for broader employment prospects and career growth.

Furthermore, an e-aduan portal has been introduced to assist gig workers in accessing information on employment rights, social protection, and complaint channels in an organized manner.

Ramanan stressed the importance of a collaborative effort by the government, platform providers, and workers to develop a stable, inclusive, and sustainable employment ecosystem in the gig sector. At the event, he also presented tokens of appreciation to Grab partners, acknowledging their commitment to meeting the daily needs of the community.
