Bukit Aman: Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department (JLog) Deputy Director Technical/Operations DCP Gilberd Philip Layang has been appointed as the department's director, effective today. He steps into the role following the retirement of Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan, who concluded a distinguished 37-year career in the police force.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a ceremony to commemorate the handing over of duties was held at the Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hasim Hall, Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol). This event was presided over by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. During the ceremony, Ayob Khan praised Sahabudin's leadership during his tenure, highlighting his integrity and commitment since taking charge of JLog on July 5, 2021.
Ayob Khan noted that Sahabudin held numerous strategic positions throughout his career, including roles in the Kedah and Penang contingents, the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA), and the Logistics Department. He emphasized the positive impact of Sahabudin's leadership, which facilitated various initiatives aimed at enhancing the service delivery of the force.
Among the notable achievements of JLog under Sahabudin's leadership was the development of the SMART Lockup system, which was recognized with the Asia Pacific Enterprise Innovation Award 2015. This system was created in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and MIMOS. Other accomplishments include the installation of permanent electricity in Bukit Tagasan, Semporna, and welfare projects such as the AKSEM Quarters in Padang Besar. The empowerment of the Bomb Disposal Unit, which successfully managed high-calibre explosives, was also highlighted.
In his farewell speech, Sahabudin expressed gratitude for concluding his career on a meaningful note and apologized for any shortcomings during his service. He emphasized the importance of collective leadership and strategic decision-making within JLog. Sahabudin, who hails from Terengganu, began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Cadet Officer on June 5, 1988, and holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Pacific, United States.
