GOF Foils Attempt To Smuggle 2,000 Rose Saplings

Lalang Pepuyu: The Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle over 2,000 rose saplings at a roadblock in Lalang Pepuyu, Tanah Merah yesterday. Its commander, Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, reported that at 7 am, GOF personnel involved in Op Taring Wawasan stopped a suspicious-looking lorry. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect, a 24-year-old local man, believed to be transporting the plants for the local market, was arrested. An inspection revealed over 2,000 rose saplings believed to have been smuggled from Thailand inside the lorry. The total seizure value is estimated at RM650,000. The plants are also suspected to harbour pests and diseases. The case is under investigation under Section 5 of the Plant Quarantine Act 1976 (Act 167), as stated by Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid in a statement today.
