GOF Foils Smuggling Of 16,000kg Of Pork Carcasses

Kelantan: The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial 16,000 kilogrammes of pork carcasses. This operation took place on the Kelantan-Terengganu Highway when the GOF intercepted two lorries along Jalan Besar Kampung Apal.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid revealed that the drivers of the lorries failed to provide valid documentation for the goods. It is suspected that the pork carcasses were smuggled from Thailand with an intended delivery to the local market.

The authorities arrested two drivers and a lorry attendant, all of whom are Indian nationals between the ages of 23 and 46. The seized items, including the two lorries, have an estimated value of RM1.04 million. These have been turned over to the Terengganu Veterinary Department for further investigation and action.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
