Kuala lumpur: The government has announced plans to allocate additional funding to Yayasan Restu to aid its efforts in translating the Quran into 30 more languages. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim shared this development, highlighting the ongoing initiative that recently facilitated the translation of the Quran into Russian. This step builds upon the foundation's prior work, which includes producing translations in 30 languages, aimed at broadening the global reach of the Quran's message.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized that this initiative would bolster Malaysia's standing as a leading Quran producer, alongside countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. It also aims to solidify Malaysia's role as a regional leader in this field. During the launch of the 30th Quran printing and translation (in Russian), the Mushaf Ummah al-Jami', Anwar mentioned his practice of gifting translated Qurans to governments, Islamic centers, or local mosques during his international visits to countries such as Peru, Brazil, Cambodia, Laos, China, and Russia.
Anwar stated that this project aligns with the MADANI government's policy, which focuses on spreading knowledge-based da'wah to counter international prejudice and Islamophobia. With the new funding, Yayasan Restu, under the leadership of executive chairman and Nasyrul Quran CEO Datuk Abdul Latiff Mirasa, plans to increase Quran translations to 60 languages within three years.
Furthermore, Anwar mentioned that the Mushaf MADANI, set to be launched during Ramadan next year, draws inspiration from his experiences in Jakarta, Indonesia. There, he observed Quranic manuscripts embellished with local artistic motifs from various Indonesian regions, reflecting the Quran's universal message while respecting local cultural heritage.
Anwar also expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, particularly Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for maintaining the translation project during times when Anwar was not in government. He conveyed optimism that with continued support from the MADANI government, the mission would advance further, benefiting both Muslims and humanity as a whole.
