Government Allocates RM1.1 Billion to Enhance Law Enforcement and Governance

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian government's allocation of RM1.1 billion in the 2027 budget aims to bolster the operational capabilities of law enforcement agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), demonstrating a firm commitment to combating crime and enhancing national governance.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MACC highlighted that this allocation indicates the government's recognition of the need to empower enforcement agencies to prevent and eradicate crime, prosecute offenders, and recover national assets.

The MACC also noted the government's focus on drafting the Government-Owned Entities Bill, aimed at tightening governance for entities managing public funds and assets, as a significant step beyond combating power abuse towards actively strengthening governance. This initiative is seen as a means to prevent scandals similar to those involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Tabung Haji (TH), and the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA).

In addition, the MACC mentioned that the government's strategy to reinvest all loan repayment collections in public financial management shows an awareness of ensuring that funds reach their intended beneficiaries without misappropriation.

The plan to disclose project information, including contractors and contract values, in accordance with the Government Procurement Act set to take effect next year, further underscores the government's commitment to transparency.

Furthermore, the MACC expressed support for the government's proposal to establish the Law Reform Commission of Malaysia, aimed at identifying outdated laws and addressing legal gaps, to update legal policies and close loopholes for crime.

The MACC remains confident that with robust government and public support, efforts to enhance integrity, improve governance, and combat corruption can be further strengthened for the benefit of the public at large.
