Kuala Lumpur: The government has assured that the quality of Tabung Haji (TH) services for this year's haj season will remain unaffected despite a five percent reduction in staff. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar emphasized that the number of Welfare and Medical officers has been reduced to 568 this year from 620 last year. This measure is taken to mitigate the impact on management costs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Na'im assured that despite the staff reduction, the assistance provided by TH officers to haj pilgrims for the 1446 Hijrah will remain intact. He noted that the reduction is a strategic move to balance management costs without compromising service quality. These remarks were made during the opening of the haj strengthening programme for the 1446H/2025M Haj Season at Kem Permata Resort.
The event was also attended by TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain and TH group managing director and chief executive officer Syed Hamadah Syed Othman. Mohd Na'im also highlighted that TH maintains its commitment to upholding Malaysia's esteemed reputation in managing haj pilgrims, a commitment acknowledged by the Saudi Arabian government through the Labbaittom Award for three consecutive years.
He further explained that the award's evaluation criteria include the professionalism exhibited by TH staff in managing pilgrims. "That's why I keep emphasizing that haj staff trained by TH have a significant role in maintaining the good image of both TH and the country," Mohd Na'im added.
