Kuala perlis: The government has announced an allocation of RM10 million for the implementation of the Special Fishermen Housing Project (PKPN) across the country, with projects in most states currently at various stages of development and expected to be completed by August.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Salim Tajudin noted that the allocation for each state is determined by the number of fishermen residing there. He emphasized that the PKPN is part of the government's ongoing initiatives to improve the welfare of the fishing community by ensuring access to quality housing for low-income fishermen.

In a ceremony held for the handover of newly built homes under the PKPN in Kuala Perlis, Dr Abdul Salim shared that new houses were distributed to beneficiaries in Kampung Tanah Timbul, Kuala Sanglang, and Kampung Padang Besar Selatan. Specifically for Perlis, LKIM has completed five housing projects under PKPN this year, which includes two newly built houses and three refurbished ones, funded with an allocation of RM228,000.

The two new houses constructed in Kampung Tanah Timbul and Kampung Padang Besar Selatan each incurred a building cost of RM84,000, while the refurbishment for each of the three houses received RM20,000 each. Dr Abdul Salim highlighted that all PKPN targets for Perlis have been met, providing eligible members of the fishing community with safer and more comfortable homes.
