Kuala lumpur: The government is assessing the necessity of deploying security personnel, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), at petrol stations along the country's borders to strengthen security measures, announced MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who serves as the Minister of Communications, mentioned that this initiative is under review following a Cabinet briefing by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) concerning recent arrests at border petrol stations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized the need to improve several security aspects, with the Cabinet deliberating on the deployment of security personnel, particularly PDRM officers. He made these remarks during a briefing on the global energy crisis and a press conference following a Cabinet meeting. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof identified lead agencies for three sectors to address resource leakage: KPDN for the land sector, PDRM for the border sector, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for the maritime sector.
Fahmi also highlighted that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) is set to evaluate the MyKasih system and the use of MyKad for subsidy distribution, including diesel subsidies for Malaysians. The MOF will study this mechanism before presenting it to the Cabinet for a final decision and announcement.
Addressing issues faced by fishermen regarding diesel, Fahmi stated that the Cabinet has tasked the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and KPDN with examining several follow-up actions. These actions include evaluating the disparity between subsidized diesel prices and the revenue returns for fishermen, which has adversely impacted fishing activities in both coastal and deep-sea areas.
