Kuala Lumpur: The government has yet to finalize a proposal for civil servants to work from home (WFH) and for students to engage in home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) during the upcoming ASEAN Summit at the end of this month. Communications Minister and MADANI government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil emphasized that this proposal is currently under detailed review by the ASEAN Secretariat at Wisma Putra.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted that the focus is primarily on those working near the ASEAN Summit venue and areas where major meetings are scheduled. The summit is anticipated to occur at the end of May, with further updates expected following the upcoming Cabinet meeting, either this week or the next.
Fahmi noted that issues relating to the education sector should be addressed by the Education Minister, while those concerning civil servants fall under the jurisdiction of the director-general of Public Services. Previously, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan indicated that the WFH and PdPR proposals for the ASEAN Summits in May and October would be presented to the Cabinet. This follows concerns about disruptions from road closures during Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent state visit, particularly affecting Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
