Government Intensifies Coordination for Refugee and Asylum Seeker Management

Kuala lumpur: The government is set to enhance its management of refugees and asylum seekers through improved inter-agency coordination, ensuring that national security remains a priority, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin chaired a meeting for the Security Cluster Working Committee on the Management of Refugees and Asylum Seekers. During the meeting, he emphasized that Malaysia's approach to handling the growing complexity of refugee and asylum seeker issues is under review and requires continuous attention.

The discussion centered around fortifying coordination among agencies while maintaining national security, alongside the implementation of a more structured and effective management strategy. Saifuddin highlighted the significance of the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) Programme, which began on January 1, as a pivotal step towards systematic management. This initiative has enabled the government to acquire clearer and more comprehensive data, facilitating a more structured regulatory process.

Saifuddin expressed confidence in the ongoing improvement efforts, stating that they will provide clearer, more controlled management that is beneficial to all parties involved. Today's meeting included not only agencies under the Home Ministry but also representatives from the National Security Council, Foreign Ministry, Housing and Local Government Ministry, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), and the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia.
