Government Neutral in KL Tower Concession Dispute: Fahmi

Kuala Lumpur: The government maintains neutrality in the ongoing dispute over the Kuala Lumpur Tower (KL Tower) concession takeover, as stated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who acts as the Unity Government spokesperson, clarified that the eviction notice issued by the Federal Land Commissioner should be viewed as a lawful procedure rather than an act of oppression.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized that the issue is currently under legal proceedings in court, urging all involved parties to respect the due process of the law. He reiterated that the actions are compliant with the rule of law as outlined in the Federal Constitution, noting that KL Tower is entirely government-owned and the Federal Land Commissioner operates within legal limits concerning several critical issues.

Fahmi's comments came in response to inquiries about the MADANI Government's decision to temporarily close KL Tower for maintenance and upgrades by the new management to ensure visitor safety and comfort. The ministry previously announced that as of April 1, the operations, management, and maintenance responsibilities of KL Tower have been officially transferred to the new concessionaire, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd (LSHSM).

Consequently, the continued occupation of the KL Tower site by the previous concessionaire, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB), post-March 31 is considered unlawful. In light of this, the Federal Land Commissioner issued two eviction notices to MKLSB through letters dated April 3 and April 9.
