Government Procedures Followed in Sabah-Sarawak Border Talks with Indonesia: Mustapha

Kuala lumpur: The government has strictly adhered to established procedures in the negotiations concerning the Malaysia-Indonesia border alignment involving Sabah and Sarawak, stated Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government engaged with all relevant parties and agencies, especially focusing on the Sabah and Sarawak state governments. Mustapha emphasized that the adherence to procedures counters allegations by various parties suggesting betrayal. His remarks followed a courtesy call from Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) chief commissioner Mohammad Abiddin, where he received his appointment as APM honorary commissioner.

Mustapha further supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's stance on maintaining consensus and diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Indonesia. He highlighted the importance of avoiding the spread of unverified information that could affect relations with Indonesia. Mustapha encouraged addressing any questions through proper channels to ensure accurate clarification.

In Parliament, Anwar Ibrahim strongly denied claims of Malaysia handing over 5,207 hectares of land to Indonesia as compensation for three villages along the Sabah-Kalimantan border, labeling the allegations as false.

Additionally, Mustapha expressed gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for entrusting him with the role of APM honorary commissioner. He acknowledged the challenges ahead and committed to assisting in disaster management across Malaysia, including visits to disaster-affected areas in Peninsular Malaysia.
