Government to Address Sultan of Selangor’s Concerns Over LRT3 Project

Shah alam: The MADANI Government is set to seek an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor to address concerns over the ongoing LRT3 Shah Alam Line project, following remarks made by the Sultan regarding its cost and delays.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the importance of clarifying the situation to the Sultan, whose comments have raised significant attention. Loke stated, "We accept His Royal Highness' remarks, and I will seek an audience with the Sultan of Selangor to provide further clarification." This announcement was made during a charity dinner attended by Pakatan Harapan (PH) Communications Director and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, along with other prominent political figures.

Sultan Sharafuddin highlighted that the LRT3 project faced an 18-month suspension following a change in the Federal Government administration in 2018, further compounded by a 19-month delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His Royal Highness noted changes to the project, including reduced station sizes, fewer train carriages, and the cancellation of five proposed stations. The Sultan emphasized the project's significance, stating it was not for prestige but for the people's benefit and well-being.

In response to the upcoming 16th Johor State Election on July 11, Loke announced measures to improve public transport services, facilitating voter turnout. The Ministry of Transport has collaborated with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to increase the frequency of the Electric Train Service (ETS) between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. This initiative aims to assist voters returning from various regions, including Singapore, to cast their ballots effectively.

The 16th Johor State Election will feature 172 candidates vying for 56 state seats, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
