Kuala Lampur:The government is set to enhance the use of palm kernel cake (PKC) as an alternative local livestock feed source and bolster the rice sector's resilience against climate change and the El Nino phenomenon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) announced that these initiatives were decided at the Meeting of the Executive Committee on National Food Security Policy, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof and Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, along with representatives from various ministries and related agencies.
The statement highlighted that PKC will be strengthened and optimized for the livestock sector to reduce reliance on imported animal feed and manage livestock input costs. Concurrently, the government plans to develop a comprehensive preparedness and mitigation plan for rice cultivation in the Muda Area to manage risks associated with climate change and El Nino.
KPKM stressed that the MADANI Government remains committed to strengthening the country's food security through a comprehensive approach, improving local production resilience, reducing import dependency, and ensuring a sufficient, safe, and affordable food supply for the population.
