Govt Aims to Broaden Economic Benefits and Financial Literacy Among Malaysians: PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the government's intention to ensure that a wider range of Malaysians benefit from economic growth and financial literacy, moving beyond just the elite segment of society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the importance of financial literacy in strengthening the resilience of the people against economic challenges and preventing them from falling prey to investment schemes or financial scams. He noted the healthy growth rate of the country's economy and the vibrancy of the financial sector but urged that these benefits should not be limited to a small group with power or wealth.

The prime minister called for the expansion of economic benefits across all communities, including poorer and middle-income groups, through fostering financial understanding. These remarks were made during the launch of the Malaysia National Financial Literacy Strategy 2026-2030 and Financial Literacy Month 2025. The event was also attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, and Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi.

Anwar introduced the 'Financial Literacy Squad' Tour Programme, which includes a mobile service vehicle operated by members of the Financial Education Network. He stressed the ongoing need to enhance critical thinking in financial literacy to mitigate the risks of losses and manipulation, advocating for financial education to begin at the school level and extend to the general populace with active participation from financial institutions.

He urged banks to engage with nearby schools, mosques, and communities to provide financial education and understanding. Anwar further emphasized the importance of continuous efforts to integrate financial literacy into the community's culture from 2026 to 2030, aligning with the objective of building an inclusive civil society.
