Kuala Lumpur: The government has allocated RM9 million this year to send teachers abroad for courses in leadership and artificial intelligence (AI), as stated by Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi. This initiative is part of a pilot project designed to enhance the skills of teachers in these two critical fields, with the ultimate goal of elevating the country's education system.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Ruji Ubi explained that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has consistently emphasized the importance of providing quality access to education, which extends beyond just infrastructure and curriculum. Enhancing teachers' leadership skills is a significant component of this initiative. Datuk Ruji Ubi highlighted that this effort is aimed at developing a more competent, compassionate, and caring MADANI society.
The announcement was made during Datuk Ruji Ubi's visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jalan Datuk Palembang in Bukit Baru, where he observed the first day of school for Group B students. Also present at the event were the Prime Minister's senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who also serves as the president of the SK Jalan Datuk Palembang Parent-Teacher Association, and Melaka Education Department director, Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor.
Datuk Ruji Ubi further elaborated that selected teachers will have the opportunity to undergo training in several countries, including Singapore and the United States. Each course will last between one and three months. He mentioned plans to chair a meeting with the Education director-general soon to identify eligible teachers from various levels, including the ministry, state education departments, district education offices, and schools for participation in the program.
In the past, teachers were primarily sent for courses focused on teaching and learning within the country. However, Datuk Ruji Ubi stressed that leadership in schools is crucial as it determines the direction of schools, teachers, and students.
