Kuala terengganu: A 58-year-old government officer has reported a loss of RM12,017 after being deceived by a fraudulent foreign currency exchange (forex) investment scheme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor stated that the incident began on December 10 when the victim encountered an investment advertisement on Facebook. The advertisement piqued the victim's interest, prompting him to contact the suspect for more details about the investment opportunity.
The victim initially invested RM300 with the assurance of receiving a return of RM11,000 within two hours. However, he was later asked to make additional payments to supposedly facilitate the release of the investment profits. Over a period from December 11 to 15, the victim made several payments amounting to RM11,771.
The police chief explained that the victim only realized he had been scammed after failing to receive the promised returns. Consequently, he lodged a police report yesterday. The authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
