Govt Project Bidders Required to Have Tax Compliance Certificate, Says IRB

Kuala lumpur: Companies or entrepreneurs seeking to participate in government tenders or projects must possess a Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC), which serves as proof of a taxpayer's compliance status, said the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). IRB's Revenue Collection Department principal assistant director, Azaharuddin Mohd Ali, highlighted that various entities, including companies, cooperatives, trust bodies, organisations, limited liability partnerships, and individuals conducting business, are required to implement the TCC.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azaharuddin emphasized that obtaining a TCC is mandatory for entities wishing to engage in government tenders or projects. This requirement ensures that only those compliant with tax laws can conduct business with the government. The TCC acts as an official document certifying that taxpayers have fulfilled their responsibilities and obligations, essentially serving as a 'passport' to opportunities in government tenders.

Azaharuddin mentioned that TCC status can be easily verified through the MyTax portal. He elaborated on the eligibility criteria, stating that taxpayers must submit their Tax Return Form annually within the stipulated period and ensure they have no outstanding taxes or are adhering to an approved instalment payment schedule.

The TCC is valid for one year based on the current calendar year, and its authenticity can be confirmed by scanning the QR code via the MyTax mobile application. The issuance of the TCC is also linked to the Tax Identification Number (TIN), which every taxpayer must possess.

Azaharuddin advised those interested in government tenders, contracts, or supply deals to ensure they have a TCC. The process to obtain it is straightforward: log in to the MyTax Portal and print it. He stressed that the TCC is not merely a requirement but a testament to integrity and tax compliance, allowing the government to engage with greater confidence.

Furthermore, Azaharuddin invited the public to participate in the National Taxation Seminar 2025, scheduled to be held virtually on Oct 14, with options to attend in person at venues in Johor, Penang, Sarawak, and Sabah. The participation fee is RM350, inclusive of a certificate and CPD points, and registration can be completed at spk.hasil.gov.my.
