Kuala lumpur: The government has reaffirmed five commitments that will continue to guide the national agenda for the plantation sector, said Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noraini articulated these commitments at the 11th International Planters Conference 2026. The first commitment emphasizes strengthening sustainability as a foundation for long-term competitiveness, ensuring that economic growth aligns with environmental responsibility and social inclusion.
The second commitment involves accelerating innovation by supporting research, digitalization, and the adoption of advanced technologies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and resilience throughout the value chain. The minister also highlighted the importance of empowering smallholders and plantation communities as the third commitment.
The fourth commitment focuses on promoting greater value creation by encouraging downstream industries, commercialization of research, bio-based products, and the circular economy. This approach enables commodities to contribute to higher-value industries and new economic growth sources.
Finally, the government aims to strengthen international cooperation, as the future of sustainable plantation agriculture hinges on stronger partnerships, enhanced knowledge sharing, and mutual trust among nations. Noraini underscored the aspiration to position Malaysia as a global reference for sustainable plantation agriculture, driven by science, innovation, sustainability, and trust.
The government plans to continue strengthening the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme, representing the country's dedication to responsible production, environmental stewardship, and social accountability.
