Govt Unveils E-Invoice Declaration Programme to Support MSMEs Until 2027

Kuala lumpur: The government has announced the launch of the e-Invoice Voluntary Declaration Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at alleviating business compliance costs for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through to December 31, 2027, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, emphasized that businesses making voluntary updates, reviews, and corrections during the programme will not be subjected to penalties by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia. He noted that this approach is atypical for income tax cases, highlighting the government's commitment to easing regulatory burdens on businesses.

During the Minister's Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar responded to an inquiry from Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor) regarding the government's strategies to aid MSME entrepreneurs amid global economic challenges. He outlined the government's plan to expedite tax incentives by allowing full capital allowance claims within a year for eligible expenses related to the implementation of e-Invoice. This measure is intended to encourage and reward taxpayers for adhering to the e-Invoice system.

Furthermore, Anwar pointed out that in December 2025, the government had raised the income threshold for e-Invoice exemption from RM500,000 to RM1 million. This adjustment has positively impacted over one million taxpayers, further demonstrating the government's dedication to supporting the survival and growth of MSMEs in the evolving economic landscape.
