Great Eastern Takaful Named Best Takaful Solution Provider 2024, Wins ESG Initiative Award

KUALA LUMPUR, Great Eastern Takaful Bhd (GETB) has achieved significant milestones, being named Best Takaful Solution Provider 2024 at the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) and receiving the Initiative Award – Upcycling from the ESGBusiness Awards.

GETB said these prestigious accolades highlight the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the takaful industry, while reinforcing its focus on environmental protection through education and its upcycling initiative.

The GIFA 2024 ceremony, held in the Republic of Maldives, has become a symbol of recognition for outstanding contributions to global finance, honouring institutions and individuals who have advanced Islamic finance significantly.

Great Eastern Takaful chief executive officer, Shahrul Azlan Shahriman, said the recognition underscores the company’s efforts to provide comprehensive health and financial protection to Malaysians.

“Fuelled by dedicated employees, takaful advisors, and strong distribution partners, we are able to stand st
rong in helping people support each other in times of need.

“As one of the leading takaful operators in Malaysia, this award symbolises our commitment to narrowing the protection gap amongst Malaysians. We will continuously grow our business, striving for greatness with enhanced efficiency, inclusivity, and digital touchpoints, all for the betterment of the takaful industry,” said Shahrul Azlan in a statement.

Additionally, GETB was awarded the Initiative Award – Malaysia for Upcycling by the ESGBusiness Awards 2024, held recently in Singapore.

This recognised its environmental sustainability efforts through its upcycling initiative, part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) pillar, GET-Green.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of plastic pollution and promote upcycling practices through education and 2-in-1 upcycling machine demonstrations for students and community members, Shahrul Azlan explained.

To date, the initiative has reached over 12,000 individuals and logged more than 50,000 train
ing hours.

“We firmly believe that sustainability and community empowerment are interconnected. Our upcycling initiative goes beyond merely reducing plastic waste; it aims to create a positive ripple effect by educating individuals about environmental responsibility.

“Through educational programmes, local partnerships, and skills development, this project has brought people together for a shared purpose. Together, we are building a future that is not only sustainable but also inclusive and empowering for all. This win is for everyone who has contributed to the project,” he added.
