Green Sea Turtle Carcass Found Floating In Teluk Batu Waters

Teluk Batu: A female green turtle weighing between 100 and 130 kilograms was discovered dead at Pantai Teluk Batu in Kijal around 2.30 pm yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Terengganu Fisheries Department director Pang Nyukang stated that the carcass of the adult turtle, measuring approximately 91 centimeters in length and 76 centimeters in width, was found floating at the water's edge by a licensed turtle egg collector who was monitoring the area.

'We received a report from the Teluk Batu beach permit holder around 8 last night. However, he was unable to retrieve the carcass due to its large size and the strong waves,' Pang said when contacted.

He mentioned that officers from the Kemaman district were dispatched to locate the carcass but were unsuccessful, as it is believed to have been washed away by high tide last night.

The turtle egg collector suspects that the turtle died within the past one or two days, noting that there were signs of injury on its neck, thought to have been caused by entanglement in a fishing net.
