Kuala lumpur: A meeting with the families of 23 Malaysian volunteers in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission currently detained by Israeli forces will be held immediately to provide updates and assure them of full support.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby emphasized the importance of the closed-door meeting to ensure families are informed of the latest developments and to prevent confusion or misinformation. He highlighted the emotional toll misinformation can take on families, saying it is crucial to explain the standard operating procedures and actions being taken.
Sani Araby assured that the SNCC, alongside the legal team and relevant parties, would continue to monitor the situation closely. He expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by Malaysians, noting the widespread support on social media across different communities, which he believes will strengthen the families and detained participants.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as the principal patron of Sumud Nusantara and Chairman of ASEAN, had reached out to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to initiate high-level diplomatic efforts. Sani Araby expressed hope that Malaysia's strong international relationships would facilitate negotiations for the group's release.
Addressing social media criticism about the risks taken by flotilla participants, Sani Araby stated that all participants were aware of the dangers but were committed to the humanitarian mission to support the people of Gaza. He emphasized the training and awareness of the participants regarding the risks involved.
He added that several ministers, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, have been involved since the start of the mission, acting as "patron ministers" in this collective effort.
Sani Araby concluded by urging Malaysians to perform special prayers (solat hajat) and Qunut Nazilah in mosques as a sign of solidarity and prayers for the safety of the participants and the liberation of Gaza.
