Kuala lumpur: Eastern and Oriental Berhad (EandO) has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the Gurney Bridge at Andaman Island here as the 'Widest Box Girder Bridge in Malaysia'. EandO managing director Kok Tuck Cheong received the recognition from MBOR chief executive officer Christopher Wong during The Meg Appreciation Evening here, witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and EandO executive chairman Datuk Seri Tee Eng Ho.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, EandO stated that the 450-metre bridge spans the sea and measures 40 metres wide, featuring eight vehicular lanes and dedicated pedestrian walkways on both sides. The bridge links Andaman Island to Gurney Drive, enhancing connectivity along Penang's northern coastline. It is designed to improve regional connectivity, enhance traffic flow distribution, reduce travel time, and provide an alternative access route along Penang's northern seafront.
Kok described the MBOR recognition as a meaningful milestone for the group. He emphasized that the Gurney Bridge is more than just a connection point, highlighting its role as a key enabler of Andaman Island's vision as a fully integrated and future-ready township. The bridge is seen as a significant contributor to shaping a vibrant waterfront environment that supports community, mobility, and long-term growth.
Andaman's ongoing project is envisioned as a future-ready urban island, which will eventually span 760 acres, located off the coast of Gurney Bay and Seri Tanjung Pinang.
