Hajiji and GRS Leaders Attend PKR Congress, Signifying Robust Sabah-Federal Relations

Melaka: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, accompanied by leaders from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), attended the 2026 PKR National Congress, showcasing the robust connection and cooperative spirit between the Sabah and federal governments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sabah PKR Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud emphasized that the cooperation between the governments extends beyond politics, touching all facets of governance. Mustapha highlighted that the primary goal is to ensure stability leads to development, economic opportunities, improved basic amenities, and solutions to issues affecting the lives of Sabah's people.

Mustapha, who also serves as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), noted the responsibility of the MADANI Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to implement national development inclusively and equitably. This approach considers the unique needs and characteristics of each region, particularly Sabah. He further assured that PKR remains steadfast in advocating for Sabah's rights and interests, including the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) within a fair federal framework respecting the state's position and special status.

The presence of Hajiji and GRS leaders as special guests was deeply appreciated by Mustapha. Among the GRS leaders attending were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang, and Sabah Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. The gathering also included Sabah Education, Science and Technology Minister Datuk James Ratib, GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Mohd Razali Mohd Razi, and Balung assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abas.

Mustapha conveyed that the attendance of these leaders at the PKR National Congress signifies that political differences need not hinder collaboration and mutual understanding for the benefit of Sabah and its people. Prime Minister Anwar, who also holds the position of PKR president, officiated the congress under the theme 'Memugar Reformasi, Membina MADANI' at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
