Hang Tuah Jaya Developers Must Plant Native Trees or Risk Losing CCC

Hang tuah jaya: Property and housing developers within the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) administrative area must plant native tree species in line with the Melaka Landscape Guidelines or risk not receiving their Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MPHTJ president Datuk Sapiah Haron stated that this requirement aims to preserve biodiversity and maintain the state's green heritage, aligning with Melaka's ambition to become a Green Champion State. She emphasized that native tree species are better suited to the local climate, more resilient, and require lower maintenance compared to non-native species.

Speaking to reporters after the opening of MPHTJ's June monthly assembly and the Anjung Gapam Recreational Park, Sapiah mentioned that developers can choose from a list of 200 approved native tree species, including Phyllanthus emblica (Melaka tree) and Intsia palembanica (Merbau). She highlighted that the requirement underscores the state's dedication to treating landscaping as a crucial component of sustainable and liveable urban development rather than merely an aesthetic feature.

In a separate development, Sapiah announced that upgrading works at Lanai Seni, formerly known as Leypark Station, and Dataran Sejarah in Ayer Keroh, each involving an allocation of RM1 million, are expected to be completed by the end of this month. The projects, funded by the National Landscape Department under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), aim to provide more conducive and user-friendly community recreational spaces while serving as hubs for social interaction. The upgrades include improved lighting, especially for night-time activities, and enhanced jogging track facilities to improve visitors' comfort and safety.
