Kuala Lumpur: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh hopes the authorities will continue the investigation into the acid attack case against national footballer Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim, which was previously classified as No Further Action (NFA). She believes what was done to the national football asset is a serious crime and demands due justice.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yeoh expressed relief that the investigation is still ongoing, referencing a police statement indicating that the NFA status does not signify a halt in the investigation. She urged for intensified efforts to identify the perpetrator(s) responsible for the attack, emphasizing the unacceptability of such incidents occurring to athletes. These remarks were made during a press conference at the opening of the ASTAF 2025 Asia Cup Sepaktakraw Championship.
Earlier, police confirmed that they are continuing their investigation into the acid attack on Selangor FC's key player, Faisal Halim, despite the case being classified as NFA. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain explained that the NFA status resulted from a lack of progress after the arrest of three individuals and the examination of clues, including CCTV footage and facial sketches, which proved unrelated to the suspicion. He assured that the police would persist in their efforts to uncover new leads.
In another development, Hannah Yeoh expressed full support for the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) in organizing the first-ever Sepaktakraw World Cup, which will also include a women's team next year. She highlighted the importance of utilizing funds to benefit women in sports, urging all sports associations to ensure equal opportunities, allocations, and exposure for women.
