Kuala lumpur: Han's Laser Smart Equipment Group Co Ltd announced that it led the development of ISO 11553-2:2026, the first international safety standard for complete laser processing equipment for hand-held or hand-operated machines developed under the ISO/IEC framework.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Han's Laser stated that the international standard, ISO 11553-2:2026 Safety of machinery-Laser processing machines-Part 2: Safety requirements for hand-held or hand-operated laser processing machines, was officially released on August 28 after a seven-year development effort. This release marks the first instance of Han's Laser spearheading an international safety standard under the ISO/IEC framework, highlighting a strategic shift from its role as a participant in standardisation to a leading standard-setter in the hand-held laser processing equipment sector.
The new standard represents a significant advancement in safety protection methodology, transitioning from a focus on 'personnel management + end-user protection' to emphasizing 'inherently safe design measures embedded in the product itself'. It includes comprehensive guidelines on risk assessment, safety functions, protective measures, control systems, and information for use, placing primary responsibility for safety on the equipment's inherent design rather than on operator training and personal protective equipment. This standard provides a unified global safety benchmark for hand-held laser processing machines and establishes a technical foundation for market access.
