Harimau Malaya Aim to End Vietnam Winless Streak in ASEAN Cup Playoff

Jakarta:Harimau Malaya interim head coach Tan Cheng Hoe is eager for Malaysia to end their winless streak against Vietnam in the FIFA ASEAN Cup third-placing playoff match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Cheng Hoe is determined for Malaysia to achieve a positive result, as they have not defeated Vietnam since their 4-2 victory in the return leg of the AFF Cup semi-final in 2014, which led them to the final with a 5-4 aggregate win.

Malaysia's struggles against Vietnam have continued for over a decade, with the team failing to secure a victory in their last 12 encounters, resulting in 11 defeats and one draw. In their most recent meeting, Vietnam emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in the second leg of the ASEAN Championship semi-final in August, eliminating Malaysia with a 4-0 aggregate score.

Tomorrow's match presents Malaysia with a chance to break their losing streak and conclude their ASEAN Cup campaign with a significant victory. Malaysia progressed to the third-placing playoff after finishing second in Group A, tied on seven points with Indonesia, who topped the group due to a superior goal difference.

In the final, Thailand will face hosts Indonesia at the same venue tomorrow night.
