Kota Kuala Muda:Fishing activities at sea remain largely unaffected by the haze; however, fishermen in regions experiencing reduced visibility have been advised to temporarily postpone their activities for safety reasons.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Salim Tajudin stated that while the haze in the northern region of Malaysia is manageable, the southern region faces impaired visibility. He emphasized the importance of caution for fishermen, particularly in the southern areas, when engaging in sea activities.
Dr Abdul Salim, speaking after a visit to a fisherman affected by a fire in Kampung Pulau Sayak, stressed the need for safety precautions, including the use of life jackets and other safety equipment. He assured that fish supplies remain stable across stores despite the haze.
During his visit, Dr Abdul Salim provided initial financial assistance and essential items to Azizan Mohd Soleh, a fisherman whose house and workshop were destroyed by fire. The aid, amounting to RM1,000, was given through the Natural Disaster Relief and Fishermen's Welfare Scheme, with further assistance of up to RM10,000 under consideration by the LKIM committee.
The fire incident, which occurred late on Monday, resulted in the destruction of Azizan's workshop, a car, 11 motorcycles, and five boat engines, leading to losses estimated over RM300,000. Azizan, who has been operating his workshop for over a decade, expressed gratitude for the support received from LKIM.
