Kuala Lumpur: The mutual exchange digital platform initiated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) is anticipated to be launched in the third or fourth quarter of this year, as stated by the minister, Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad. This platform is designed to enable health workers within the same scheme to exchange their placements, reducing the need for intervention from the Human Resources Division and aiming to alleviate burnout among overworked staff.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dzulkefly noted that while the platform is expected to be ready by the end of this year, MOH deputy secretary-general (finance) Norazman Ayob had previously targeted the launch for June 1. Dzulkefly emphasized that the platform is a novel approach and discussions are ongoing to finalize its implementation. The platform will operate on a 'like-for-like' basis, meaning that exchanges will occur within the same professional categories, such as doctors swapping with doctors.
Dzulkefly highlighted the significance of this initiative during his attendance at the Shariacare: Pioneering Health with Shariah Values symposium, stressing that it is intended for the welfare of healthcare workers. He revealed that discussions for the platform began last year with the objective of establishing an efficient system that requires minimal administrative involvement.
The minister expressed optimism that the platform could effectively address challenges like burnout among healthcare workers posted far from their homes. He acknowledged the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle issues such as acute staff shortages and uneven distribution of healthcare professionals. The ministry is evaluating various factors, including workload metrics, to ensure equitable distribution and address specific needs across different settings.
