Tanjong malim: A man who was reported missing while hiking at Mount Liang in Tanjong Malim has been found dead at the summit of West Mount Liang. The discovery was made this evening, ending a two-day search effort.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Acting Assistant Director of Operations for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, confirmed that the victim, identified as 34-year-old Mustaqqeem Mansoor from Sungai Petani, Kedah, was located at 3.30 pm. Authorities had applied the LAST concept in their search and followed the hiking trail to the last known location of the victim.
The Search and Rescue (SAR) operation comprised 22 personnel from various agencies, including the police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Perak State Forestry Department, Slim Village Voluntary Aid Team (PBS), and Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI). Mansoor had embarked on the hike from Fraser's Hill, Pahang, with 10 friends on October 10, intending to descend at Mount Liang. He was last seen on October 14 around 10.30 pm, reportedly with a leg injury and moving slowly.
Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah stated that a fire department helicopter is anticipated to be used to bring the victim down from the location at 9 am the following morning. However, due to current weather conditions, the helicopter could not be deployed immediately. As a result, a second rescue team will ascend with equipment to relieve the first team, and they will spend the night at the summit.
Earlier reports indicated that the victim was believed to have gone missing while hiking with 10 friends, prompting the fire department to initiate the SAR operation.
