Kuala Lumpur:The increased allocation for healthcare in Budget 2027 is set to propel Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) towards modernising its infrastructure and advancing its transition to a fully digital hospital.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, HKL director Datuk Dr Harikrishna K R Nair highlighted that the funding will facilitate the 156-year-old hospital in upgrading its electrical systems and enhancing its information technology infrastructure. The hospital aims to become a fully computerised Health Information System hospital, which will improve facilities for patients and streamline operations.
HKL is among 16 hospitals scheduled to implement the Health Information System next year, with RM200 million allocated for this initiative. The system is designed to allow specialists from different disciplines to access patients' medical records electronically, reducing the need for patients to repeat information during consultations.
Dr Harikrishna also mentioned that the funding is crucial for addressing non-communicable diseases, as it will enable HKL to acquire newer medicines and conduct more medical procedures, improving access to treatment. The increased allocation for outsourcing services under Skim Perubatan MADANI, managed by ProtectHealth, will help reduce waiting times and lower the risk of complications for patients.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, announced RM47.7 billion for the Ministry of Health when presenting Budget 2027, an increase from RM46.5 billion last year. The budget includes RM1.2 billion for the maintenance and repair of public hospitals and clinics and an expanded allocation for outsourcing patients to other hospitals.
