Kuala Lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN) has proposed the use of the MyDigital ID app to facilitate the payment of traffic summonses, as announced by its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. This initiative is part of the government’s broader digital transformation strategy, although the adoption of MyDigital ID is not yet mandatory.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government has already agreed to amend the National Registration Act 1959 to support the official and widespread use of digital identification. While the proposal has not yet been passed in Parliament, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail encouraged the public to utilize the app for identification purposes in various matters. He noted that the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department would prioritize MyDigital ID users in the future.
Saifuddin further explained that users of the app might benefit from higher discounts on traffic summonses. Previously, a 50 percent discount was available, but with MyDigital ID, the discount could increase to 55 percent. He assured the public that registering for the app is straightforward, utilizing their phones for a quick process.
The announcement was made during the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Hari Raya Aidilfitri event held at Titiwangsa Stadium, which was attended by other notable figures such as Chief Secretary to the Malaysian Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. During the event, Saifuddin Nasution also presented donations to police beneficiaries, including asnaf, orphans, widows, and autistic children.
