Home Ministry Seizes Over 6,600 Quran Texts Valued at RM378,000

Kuala lumpur: The Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) has seized 6,620 Quran texts and related materials valued at RM378,171.92 as part of Ops Mulia, conducted from January 1 to March 31 this year. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail revealed that the operation was carried out by the ministry's Enforcement and Control Division, focusing on inspections at 1,758 premises to ensure adherence to the Printing of Quranic Texts Act 1986.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the enforcement actions targeted Quran copies that contained errors or did not meet religious standards. Saifuddin emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of the mushaf, as even minor alterations could change the meaning. Enforcement activities extended beyond printed materials to include digital and audio versions, with monitoring also covering items sold on e-commerce platforms. Approvals are given by authorities composed of Islamic scholars and experts who thoroughly assess the content.

During the operation, 44 investigation papers were opened for further action, including potential prosecution or issuing of compounds. Saifuddin also mentioned that 8,672 Quran texts and materials worth RM2.7 million were disposed of during a Quran Purification Programme aboard the Maritime Ship (KM) Tun Fatimah. This involved releasing 1.5-tonne compressed blocks into waters off Port Klang after a strict purification process.

Additionally, the Jom Exchange Al-Quran (JEQ) programme, initiated in 2023, has made significant progress by facilitating 725 exchanges nationwide, involving 76,235 damaged or uncertified mushaf for new KDN-certified copies. The programme has been recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records for The Largest Quran Exchange, underlining KDN's ongoing efforts to preserve the sanctity of the Quran and enhance public awareness.
