Homelessness and Attorney General’s Powers Debated in Dewan Rakyat

Kuala lumpur: The issue of homelessness in the capital and the separation of powers between the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor are among matters to be raised at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Order Paper published on the Parliament website shows that Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) posed questions to the Prime Minister regarding the current number of homeless individuals in the capital. He also queried whether existing homeless transit centres are being fully utilised during the question-and-answer session beginning at 10 am. Fong further inquired about the necessity to expand or increase the number of such transit centres, and the potential for introducing training and skills development programmes to help the homeless become self-reliant.

In the same session, Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) directed his questions to the Prime Minister concerning the comparative models referred to by the government in the separation of the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor. Lim also raised whether future appointments of the Attorney General will be reviewed by a related Parliamentary Special Select Committee (JKPK).

Additionally, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) sought clarification from the Youth and Sports Minister about the ministry's current stance on the previous government's proposal to build at least one drag racing circuit in each state. This inquiry aligns with the current government's support for the recent Himpunan RXZ Members gathering.

Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting will proceed with the ministerial winding-up session on the Supply Bill at the policy stage. The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to run for 35 days until December 4.
