Terengganu: The Gynae-Oncology team of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O and G) at Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital (HoSZA) has achieved its maiden success in performing a 'Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy' on a patient diagnosed with Choriocarcinoma.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the complex surgery was led by Gynae-Oncology specialist Dr Alik Riasadesa Zakaria, with assistance from O and G Department head Dr Ramli Ibrahim. The procedure was also supported by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, alongside the medical team and nurses.

The Health Minister highlighted that with minimally invasive surgical techniques, the patient now has a better chance of a quicker recovery and reduced risk of complications, allowing the patient to return to normal life and improve their quality of living, even in complex cases like cancer. He emphasized that this success demonstrates that public hospitals in Malaysia are equipped to offer world-class, high-tech treatments through skilled and competent specialists for the health and well-being of Malaysians.

Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad extended his congratulations to the entire HoSZA team, recognizing them as a source of inspiration for the nation, and underscored the significance of their achievement in advancing medical care.
