MANILA: The House committee on ethics and privileges on Tuesday agreed on a recommended sanction regarding the complaint filed against Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez for allegedly making seditious remarks about President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
In a press conference, House ethics panel vice chairperson and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon said the committee “unanimously” approved its report containing recommendations for sanctions against Alvarez over “disorderly behavior” claims.
Bongalon, however, did not disclose details of the panel recommendation.
“I apologize because I’m not at liberty to disclose the committee recommendation but what we have done earlier is that we have already approved the committee report as to the penalty or sanction to be imposed,” Bongalon said.
He said the committee’s decision is just “recommendatory” and is still subject for the approval of the plenary.

Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy filed an ethics complaint against Alvarez for urging the military to withdraw its support to President Marcos during the April 14 rally in Tagum City.
Also part of the complaint was Alvarez’ alleged habitual absences and libelous statements against Davao del Norte officials.
