HRD Corp Restructuring and Governance Overhaul to Conclude by March: Ramanan

Kuala lumpur: The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) is undergoing a significant restructuring and governance enhancement process that is anticipated to reach completion by late March, as announced by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. He clarified that these initiatives are intended to upgrade the agency's operations to avert future issues, countering claims by some that this is a 'clean-up' exercise.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ramanan addressed the suspension of officers at HRD Corp, urging all parties to allow the investigation process to run its course. "We are upgrading, making sure we are putting all the correct tools in place so that no problems will arise after this," he stated during a press conference following the launch of the First Immersive MYFutureJobs Career Exploration Centre (MYCEC) in Malaysia.

Last Saturday, HRD Corp took the step of suspending three additional management members as part of efforts to bolster institutional discipline and maintain industry confidence. In a statement, HRD Corp chief executive officer Datuk Shamir Aziz emphasized that this action underscores the organization's commitment to enhancing governance standards and ensuring that national workforce development resources are managed with transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

Ramanan also pointed out that the changes are designed to address various weaknesses previously highlighted in the Auditor-General's findings, which had raised concerns about issues within the agency. Discussing key appointments within HRD Corp, he stressed that priority is given to professionals with credibility, noting that no political appointments have been made. "So far, those appointed include a former CEO of a GLC commission and a former deputy secretary-general of the Treasury. So that is the sort of people that we are going to put into place," he added.
