Kuala lumpur: The International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia 2026 (IGEM 2026), to be held from Oct 7 to 9 in Kuala Lumpur, is expected to generate RM22.5 billion in potential business leads and attract 60,000 visitors. The event will also bring together participants from 50 countries and feature about 450 exhibition booths.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup highlighted IGEM's growing role as a regional hub for green innovation and sustainable business opportunities, reflecting the event's scale. The theme for IGEM 2026, 'Race Towards Net Zero: Action Beyond Boundaries,' underscores the urgency for collective climate action. Arthur emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration across industries, sectors, and borders, especially in the current era of geopolitical uncertainty where energy security and sustainability are shared imperatives.
IGEM 2026 will introduce a dedicated sustainable lifestyle section showcasing the latest green technology advancements in consumer-driven sectors such as food and beverages, fashion, and cosmetics. Additionally, new segments will include a platform for property developers to showcase sustainable developments and an expanded mobility section featuring innovations in clean transportation and electric vehicles.
Now in its 17th edition, IGEM has established itself as a key platform for the green industry in Southeast Asia, recognized as the region's leading trade event for green technologies and eco solutions. Since its inception, IGEM has attracted over 700,000 visitors and 4,700 exhibitors, generating more than RM86 billion in business leads, highlighting Malaysia's leadership in green economy development.
Arthur also spoke about Malaysia's climate action efforts, noting the country's increased climate ambition last year by targeting a reduction of 15 to 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2035 through domestic measures and international cooperation. This target aligns with national frameworks like the Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy and the 13th Malaysia Plan, guiding Malaysia towards a low-carbon future and net-zero emissions by 2050.
The government is strengthening its support ecosystem to accelerate green adoption among businesses through key incentives such as the Green Investment Tax Allowance, the Green Technology Financing Scheme, and the MyHIJAU Mark and Directory. These initiatives aim to lower investment costs, improve financing access, and enhance market visibility for certified green products and services.
Arthur also announced that the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS), a key conference under IGEM, will provide a platform for stakeholders to work towards a low-carbon and resilient future. Launched in 2025, KLSS supports climate action and sustainable development in Southeast Asia, fostering collaboration on issues like climate policy, sustainable finance, and industrial decarbonisation for practical and measurable outcomes.
