Kuala Lumpur:The 17th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2026 concluded successfully with 18 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed and nearly 65,000 visitors attending over its three-day run since October 7.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event highlighted the growing importance of green technology in driving economic competitiveness and investment. Datuk Nor Yahati Awang, the deputy secretary-general of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), emphasized that the commercial interest at IGEM 2026 demonstrated that green technology is a key driver of competitiveness. She remarked that each agreement initiated during the event represents a step towards decarbonizing regional supply chains and creating high-skilled green jobs.
This year's IGEM attracted participants from 57 countries, including China, Germany, India, Japan, Russia, Singapore, and South Korea. The event featured 195 exhibitors from 11 states, government agencies, and foreign countries, and included eight thought leadership sessions and two launch events, reinforcing its role as a platform for green technology and sustainable development.
The exhibition provided a marketplace for industry players, innovators, and investors to explore commercial partnerships, while the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS) hosted high-level dialogues on climate governance and leadership. The theme "Race Towards Net Zero Actions Beyond Boundaries" introduced new showcases promoting sustainable living, such as the Net Zero Pathway and Pledge, Mobility Showcase, Sustainable Fashion and Lifestyle Showcase, and Eco Cinemax.
Nor Yahati emphasized the need for Malaysia's transition to a low-carbon economy to be inclusive and equitable, equipping the workforce with future-ready skills, helping small and medium enterprises adopt green standards, and ensuring that local communities benefit from sustainable development. The ministry plans to build on this momentum by expanding IGEM's international reach and strengthening cross-border partnerships to turn promising green technology ideas into commercially viable projects.
She also encouraged industries, state governments, and local authorities to use the IGEM platform to accelerate sustainability efforts and drive transformative changes within the domestic business ecosystem.
